Pro-Tech Today

Since the seventies when I first started training dogs, the world of dog training and the profession has changed tremendously. I now use a baseboard of Positive Reinforcement and Marker Training for most all my training. I’m what you call a balanced dog trainer. Every dog and owner is different and that relationship, between the owner and dog, is the most important aspect of a training program. I’m not a purist; I’ve left the the old school yank and crank approach in the past, and I don’t buy into the recent trend of purely-positive training. I truly believe in keeping an open mind, having tricks up my sleeve, and tools in my tool bag. This is the only way to approach the art of dog training today. Knowing that to be good at my craft, I have to always be reaching to learn more, I’m always looking to learn and grow. Knowing full well that the good ones never stop reaching and never claim to know it all. I am constantly striving to learn more, always in a constant search for more knowledge. Learning never stops in my line of work. Right when you think you know it all, there is surely someone or something that will reveal a better approach!

My History before Pro-Tech

Started training dogs when I was twelve years old, with my first dog an Australian Shepherd. Professionally since I was sixteen, working with a well established training firm located in my home town of San Luis Obispo California. Trained my first GSD Sargeant, who I trained through On Leash/Off leash Obedience & Personal Protection all on my own. With helpers that I taught following Kohler’s guard dog training book many years ago.. I have since traveled up and down the California coast training with some of the most well known training firms and trainers out there. Including Cesar Millan the Dog Whisperer who I hung out with for a few years, even living at his place on 163rd for a year or so in LA. This is before he hit the big time and anyone even knew who he was.. I was also one of the first Professional Dog Trainers representing Protection Dogs and there training on the net, with one of the first Professional Protection Dog mailing list on the net, called “Protection-Dogs L.” The list represented the art and craft of training balanced and stable protection dogs to meet the consumers needs..
